Pamela Owusu-Brenyah

Board Member, Music Women* Germany

Pamela Owusu-Brenyah is committed to the visibility of contemporary African culture and people of African descent in Germany. The Berlin-based music consultant, festival organizer, and filmmaker is currently a program curator for Pop-Kultur Festival and has worked in the past as an A&R for Universal Music Central Europe & Africa (2017-19). Since 2019 she has been working as a freelance consultant and curated programs for Pop-Kultur, Reeperbahn Festival, German Federal Ministry for Development and Cooperation, Gropius Bau and many more.

Her passion and knowledge of African Music began with her three-year stay in Ghana. In Accra, she was one of the few female DJs behind the decks and experienced firsthand the rise of popular African music.

In 2018, she founded her festival Afro x Pop, which aims to give a stage to talented musicians from the Afro-German scene. With her community platform, she builds bridges between artists from the continent and the diaspora, and celebrates the cultural diversity of the continent. In the summer of 2021, she shot her first documentary film, "ADIKORO - Women in Music Ghana," which looks at the African pop industry and the role of women. The 30-minute film highlights the socioeconomic conditions that often block women from reaching the top.

In addition, Pamela is a jury member of Musicboard Berlin's Artist and Residency Funding Program, as well as a board member of Music Women* Germany - a nationwide network dedicated to the equality and participation of women, female-identifying and non-binary individuals in the music industry.
